Wishmaster

Yes, the first Wishmaster review is finally here!! :)
Wishmaster is a 1997 movie directed by Robert Kurtzman.
It's about a woman that awakens a evil Djinn from a jewel. This Djinn has the power of granting wishes but grants them in a way, twisting the words so they have gruesome results. The djinn needs her to make three wishes as she awakened him and after he grants the third one he gets the ultimate power and can rule the world so she has to find away to save herself and her sister from the Djinns violent rampage.
Righ off the bat I see Wes Craven's name stapled on the movie, I thought for a minute that he might have directed it but I looked it up and it was some other guy, then I looked at the imdb page and found nothing and as it's nearly eleven o' clock at night and my internet is slow as fuck I decided to just not give a shi. Now, I am going to be frank with you and just say it straight out: I like this film very much! I mean, it'S not perfect but I think it's very enjoyable :)
The things I liked about it were for example the mood it sets  sometimes and the tention that it brings like in the hallway scenes with the statues that came to life and that you were waiting for it and it delivered beautifully. The transitions are also very nicely pulled off and I think this film is pretty well written. The cameos from Robert englund, Kane Hodder and Tony Todd are awesome and come on, Tony Todd's character's name is Johnyy mothafuckign Valentine!! I mean, how cool is that?! I also really like the Djinn character, the actor, Andrew Divoff pulls it off so genuinally. You see in his performance exaclty how much the Djinn likes to torture these people by twisting their wishes and that shit eating grin is just awesome!  I also like the theme of statues in the movie and the special efects are really amazing!
Now, to the nitpicking!
Althought I think this movie is pretty well written the problem is in the deliveries of some of the actors and the main problem is sadly, the main character! She is always underacting or overacting. When she's scared is so over the top you don't really know how to react and then at all other times she is so dull and underacting that you jsut kinda wanna go take a nap until the next time Divoff comes on. You find yourself cheering Divoff on because miss alexandra Mcboring isn't really developing into a characer that I'd like to see in the coming movies. Plus the scenes with her coaching the basketball team and her "motivating speeches" just make me sleepy. I mean, okay, okay, she's a nice person, I get it. But really?! Do you rally need her to be a good big sister and to coach a bunch of little amateur child actors as well... -.- Well, then there is one more thing that was kinda troubling me.All of the jumpscares exept the two last ones are really forced (that is the last two out of fucking sis). they managed to do one of te most annoying jump scares you cna have in a movie (except for the clichéed mirror one), using hte idea that people just sneak up on each other.. I mean, I don't do that and my friends don't do that.... Is it like a Hollywood thing or something? o.O Well, anyways the second one does the "boo" thing very unsuccesfully and then the others aren't really that special that I can remember them.
WEll, over all I really enjoyed this flick, sure the main actress is dull as fuck and the jump scares are lame but Andrew Divoff is amazing in his portrayal of the evil djinn and we have some pretty cool cameos from horror icons and fun gory scenes so I definitely recommend it :)

9/10

We do take requests and recommendations of movies to review, but be careful what you wish for, you might just get it ;)

Happy trails,
